University of The Bahamas collects and makes use information from the online learners to provide the best learner experience. In particular, the University collects personal information from the learners and information from the learners’ devices. 

Types of information collected  

Personal Information

From time to time, the University may collect personal information including, but not limited to, names, mailing addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers in order to register and enroll learners in courses and programmes. Personal information will only be collected from learners when they specifically and knowingly consent to such information collection. 

Device information 

Information about the devices learners use to access the LMS may be collected. The data collected from devices may include types of devices, IP addresses, geographic location, operating system, browser type, and browser language. All aforementioned information is used in aggregate to track access to and use of the LMS. LMS use by individual IP addresses will not be disclosed.

In addition, the LMS uses “cookies” to track user preferences and navigation patterns to provide an enhanced, more individualized learner experience and to aggregate site-wide usage information to improve the LMS for all learners. 

Learners can disable the collection of cookies through their browser options if they have privacy or security concerns. Learners can get more information about cookies at http://www.allaboutcookies.org/

Third Parties 

The LMS makes use of web-based learning content from third parties either through embedded content or through the use of hyperlinks to other websites. These third-party sites may also use cookies. The University has no control over and is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these third-party websites and learners are advised to check the policies of each of these sites if they have concerns. 

Use of Learners' information 

Learners’ information will be used to provide service to learners, to improve the LMS experience, communicate with learners, conduct research on LMS usage and effectiveness, and to improve online learning at the University.

Learners’ information will not be sold, traded, or rented to others. Information will only be shared with third parties in the ways described above or with university partners or contractors who are providing specific services to enhance the online learning experience. These partners or contractors will be prohibited from sharing, selling, trading, or renting learner information with others and may only use learner information for the purposes described above. 

Consent 

When learners use the LMS, they consent to the collection of their information as described in this policy. Learners may choose not to provide the university with certain information or limit device information collection. In those cases, learners’ access to certain services or information may be limited.

Information Protection 

University of The Bahamas will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the information collected is accurate and secure and that the privacy of learners is maintained, but no data storage system or internet data transmission is completely secure. 

Procedures 

All images, audio, video and screen recordings captured during online proctored exams will be securely stored for no longer than 1 year, after which they will be deleted.
